Claude ran most of a protein-design project by itself
Anthropic says its internal Claude research model did most of the work on a protein-design project: from one prompt and four follow-ups it produced 318,484 candidate designs over 64 hours and chose which ones to test. Labs made 211 of them, and 17 attached to the scorpion toxins they were aimed at. Anthropic is careful to say these only bind the toxins and haven't been shown to neutralise venom, so it isn't an antivenom, and the run took about 10,000 GPU hours.
Why it mattersLook at the shape of the work: one clear goal, a few check-ins, and the AI running a long search and producing a shortlist. That pattern fits research, sourcing or testing many variants of an idea, as long as a person checks the shortlist.
