Anthropic's IPO filing, as reported: revenue up fast, costs up faster
The Wall Street Journal says it has seen Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus: first-half revenue reportedly grew from $1.1 billion to $16.3 billion and compute spending from about $2.3 billion to about $9 billion, with around $450 billion of mostly non-cancellable cloud commitments and, per the headline, an $80 billion net loss. These figures come from a paywalled report we couldn't check independently, and @kimmonismus's $2 trillion valuation is his own opinion. He also passes on a report that OpenAI is rushing a roughly $30 billion raise before Anthropic's expected mid-November listing, which is unconfirmed.
Why it mattersNone of this changes how you use Claude today, but the prices and limits of AI tools are shaped by these huge compute bills. Keep your workflows portable between providers so a price change doesn't catch you out.
