OpenAI now limits how many devices a paid personal ChatGPT account can use
OpenAI's help centre has a new page on device limits for personal paid plans (Go, Plus and Pro) when they're used with Codex. If you hit the limit you'll see 'Device limit reached'; signing out of an old device doesn't free a slot, and buying credits or usage resets won't clear it either. OpenAI hasn't published the exact number of devices. Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces (and free accounts) aren't affected, and it's separate from the new account switching. @Mr_Salio spotted it; it follows yesterday's news that ChatGPT and Codex will share one allowance from December.
Why it mattersIf several people on your team share one Plus or Pro login, or you run Codex on lots of machines, expect to be locked out. Give each person their own seat, or move the team to a Business workspace, before it bites in the middle of a project.
