Google's Suncatcher: Gemma answered a prompt from orbit
Google says its Project Suncatcher test satellite produced the first AI response from a data-centre-class TPU in space: a Gemma 4 model wrote a haiku while passing over Svalbard. The Next Web reports that only one of the four TPUs on board runs at a time, for about 20 minutes. Next come heat and radiation tests, then two linked satellites in 2027. @Saboo_Shubham_ called it 'a huge step for humanity'; for now it's an early research test.
Why it mattersNothing to buy or change. It's a long-term bet on cheaper, solar-powered computing, worth knowing about if you follow where AI costs might go.
