Google opens a Gemini Notebook API and MCP server

4 November 2026, 15:12 · 3 sources · Curated by Sara Simeone

Google has quietly published an official API and MCP server for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) that works with personal Google Accounts. It's an early-access preview and free for now. Today it can create notebooks and add web pages, YouTube videos, text or Markdown as sources; asking questions, Audio Overviews, file uploads and Workspace accounts are on the roadmap.

Why it mattersIt's the first official way for agents like Claude Code or Cursor to feed your own notebooks without paid Enterprise licences or unofficial cookie-based tools. But it's narrow: your agent can fill a notebook, not read answers out of it, and setup needs a Google Cloud project. Limits and 'free' are Google's own preview terms. We haven't tested it hands-on.
