Anthropic files to go public, with its first operating profit (not a net profit)
Anthropic has filed an S-1 with the US SEC to list on Nasdaq under the ticker 'ANT', with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading; the number of shares and the price aren't set yet. According to the filing as reported, Q2 2026 revenue was about $11.6 billion with a $974 million operating profit, its first profitable quarter on that measure, and first-half revenue was $16.3 billion. Read the headlines carefully: the first half as a whole still shows an operating loss (about $693 million), and the reported first-half net loss of about $80.7 billion is, as @kimmonismus points out, mostly non-cash accounting charges on financial instruments, so 'profitable' only applies to Q2 operating results, not net results.
Why it mattersThe AI vendor many of us rely on will soon publish audited numbers, risks and pricing every quarter. That's handy when a client asks 'will this company still be around?', but expect more pressure on prices and more scrutiny of reliability, not less.
