macOS 27 has a free AI model in the Terminal
@dr_cintas pointed out that macOS 27 ships with a command called fm that talks to Apple's on-device model: accept the licence once with sudo fm license, check with fm available, then ask anything with fm respond followed by your question, with no account, API key or internet. Apple's own documentation also lists a chat mode, image input and a structured JSON output option. You need macOS 27 on a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence.
Why it mattersA free, private model for quick jobs like summarising notes or tidying text, with nothing leaving your Mac. A nice 'try it in five minutes' for workshops.
