What ChatCut does

ChatCut (ChatCut Inc., Texas) is an AI video editor for web (app.chatcut.io) and Desktop (macOS 13+ and Windows 10+). You describe an edit in plain language; a built-in agent (or Claude Code, Codex or WorkBuddy via the Agent Plugin / local MCP) edits a real multi-track timeline, and you can keep refining captions, graphics and cuts yourself. Skills cover speech cleanup, captions, long-to-shorts, translation/dubbing, avatars, voiceover, voice clone, background removal, AI music and generative video/image models. Exports include MP4/WebM, audio, subtitles, Premiere/DaVinci XML; Desktop can also make CapCut/Jianying drafts. Does not export Final Cut Pro XML; not fully offline; Desktop has no Linux build. Facts checked against chatcut.io and chatcut.io/docs/product-facts (company page last verified 1 Nov 2026).

Good for

  • Turning talking-head or long footage into cleaner cuts, captions or shorts with prompt-driven edits
  • Teams already in Claude Code, Codex or WorkBuddy who want video editing beside the agent
  • Handing a timeline to Premiere or DaVinci after an AI-assisted first pass

    Honest take

No red flags in our notes so far

    • Official product-facts page is unusually clear on platforms, pricing and what it does not do (no FCPXML, no Linux Desktop, not fully offline).
    • We have not tested ChatCut hands-on. Credit burn for agent messages and generative models varies with settings; the editor shows estimates before you run.
    • Free plan is real but cloud/web export is capped at 60 minutes total; AI video generation needs a paid plan.

    Pricing

Free plan (no card): core editor, uploads, transcription, captions, standard exports; cumulative 60-minute cloud/web export quota; starting credit allowance shown in-account. Paid credit plans (USD, from chatcut.io/pricing and product-facts): 100 credits $25/mo or $252/yr ($21/mo equiv); 200 $48/$456 ($38); 400 $92/$864 ($72); 800 $180/$1,692 ($141); 1,200 $270/$2,532 ($211); 2,000 $450/$4,212 ($351). Paid plans add recurring credits, AI video generation, transparent ProRes 4444 motion-graphics export, and remove the Free cloud export limit. Credits (~$0.25 face value) pay for AI generation and the agent; uploads, manual edits, transcription, caption editing and exporting do not use credits. One-time credit packs for subscribers: 100/$30, 200/$60, 400/$120, 800/$240. Checkout is authoritative for your account.

Prices as listed by the maker when we last checked (2026-11-06); usually in US dollars. Check the website for current prices.
