Harness engineering: the term to know this autumn

2 sources · Part of the 24 October 2026 edition

@gkcs_ published an explainer calling harness engineering, the code around a model that handles its tools, memory, permissions and checks, the most relevant topic of 2026. MLflow also showed how to trace and debug coding agents across Claude Code, Codex and Cursor in one place, using a tool called Omnigent; that clip is a short promo for a longer walkthrough.

Why it mattersThe model is only half the result. If you build agent workflows, the instructions, tools and checks around the model are where your real advantage and your quality control live.
