HYPE OR FACT? · CHECKED 4 NOVEMBER 2026
TesterArmy is now e2e: an $8M 'verification layer for the agentic coding era'?
OUR VERDICT
FactOur original verdict: “Fact. The rebrand, the $8M seed and the open-source framework are real and independently checkable: npm shows about 1.6M downloads in its first month and the GitHub repo has about 13,000 stars. 'The verification layer for the agentic coding era' is a slogan, not a measured result, and we haven't tested it hands-on.”
THE CLAIM
“'TesterArmy is now e2e. The software verification layer for the agentic coding era. Announcing our new brand identity and $8M seed round.'”
What’s actually true
- The rebrand and round are real. e2e's blog (3 Nov 2026, by co-founder Szymon Rybczak) announces the new name and an $8M seed; The Recursive and Unite.AI report it was led by Credo Ventures, KAYA, Point Nine, Baobab Ventures and Script Capital, with angels including Snowflake co-founder Marcin Żukowski and Uber co-founder Oscar Salazar. The company says that brings total funding to about $9.2M.
- Who's behind it: Szymon Rybczak and Oskar Kwaśniewski, Warsaw and San Francisco, founded early 2026 as TesterArmy and backed by Y Combinator.
- The product: e2e is a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) TypeScript testing framework for web, iOS and Android. You mix exact, scripted checks with AI steps (agent.act, agent.assert, agent.extract) where describing the goal is easier than scripting it. Tests live in your code, run locally or in CI, and you choose the model, including local models or existing ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot or SuperGrok subscriptions. An MCP server and agent skill connect it to Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
- It caches what an AI step did and replays it without another model call until the app changes, which keeps AI costs down. That's the company's description of how it works.
- Adoption is checkable: npm's public stats show about 1.63M downloads from 5 Oct to 3 Nov and about 119,000 on 3 Nov alone, and the GitHub repo (tester-army/e2e) has about 13,000 stars, matching the company's '1.5M downloads, 12k stars, ~100,000 a day'. Downloads aren't users: CI systems download packages repeatedly. '10M+ tests run' and '60 external contributors' are the company's figures.
- Limits by its own repo: it's pre-1.0 (v0.22), APIs can change between minor releases, and desktop apps aren't covered. The hosted 'e2e cloud' is planned for 2027; the old TesterArmy platform closes on 15 Jan 2027.

Cost
Free and open source (Apache-2.0), including commercial use. You pay for whatever AI model the agent steps use (or use an existing subscription or a local model). A paid hosted e2e cloud is planned for 2027.
USE IT IF
Developers and small teams using coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) who want automatic end-to-end tests of web or mobile apps that the agent itself can run and fix against.
SKIP IT IF
Non-technical builders who want a click-and-go testing service (it's a code framework; the hosted TesterArmy service is closing on 15 Jan 2027), and desktop apps.
