DeepSeek's 'Super-agent': always on, fixing its own issues
OUR VERDICT
Partly factOur original verdict: “Fact or hype: partly fact. The account and the code are real, but it's a design essay and a research prototype, not a product.”
THE CLAIM
“DeepSeek's internal Super-agent, built on DeepSeek Harness, is already running continuously. It reproduces and fixes issues, responds to code reviews and opens pull requests on its own, even when no one @-mentions it.”
What’s actually true
- @DeepSeekHarness is DeepSeek's official account for the product. DeepSeek's website links to it, @deepseek_ai has tagged it in launch posts, and @deepseek_ai reposted this article. It has a verified (blue) badge, about 45,000 followers and was created on 18 Jun 2026.
- DeepSeek Harness itself is real: it's an open-source (MIT) agent app in public preview, with macOS and Windows apps, an npm package and a GitHub repo under deepseek-ai.
- The article is a design essay, and it says so at the top: these are architectural ideas, not features of DeepSeek Harness today. It describes a long-lived 'router' agent that hands tasks to isolated workers, reacts to events from chat and GitHub, and is kept online by a watchdog.
- The claim that an internal Super-agent already runs full time, fixing issues and opening pull requests, is DeepSeek's own report. We couldn't verify it from outside.
- The code it released (dsh-superagent-prototype, MIT, published 31 Oct) is labelled 'research prototype for reference only, not an official DeepSeek product'. It differs from the internal version, and some designs in the article aren't implemented.

Cost
Harness and the prototype are free (MIT). You pay for model usage, e.g. the DeepSeek API per token.
USE IT IF
Developers and technical teams curious about always-on agents that watch GitHub and team chat and pick up work themselves.
SKIP IT IF
Anyone wanting a ready-made 'AI employee': the prototype is research code with a long setup, aimed at one GitHub repo.
