What DeepSeek Harness does

An open-source (MIT) agent app from DeepSeek, in public preview, with desktop apps for macOS and Windows and an npm package for Linux. It organises files, analyses data, drafts documents and slides, works on code (fix bugs, build features, run tests), does cited research and runs background and scheduled tasks. Everything is a plugin: you can install plugins or ask it to build one in Creator mode. It runs on a DeepSeek API key by default, and other OpenAI-compatible model providers can be configured.

Good for

  • Everyday office tasks on your own files: documents, spreadsheets, slides
  • Coding on a local repository
  • Scheduled background tasks with plugins

    Honest take

No red flags in our notes so far

    • Public preview: expect rough edges, and the team flags several features as experimental.
    • It needs a model API key, DeepSeek's by default. Check data-residency rules before using it on client files.
