DeepSeek Harness 'Creator Mode': turn ideas into plugins by chat
OUR VERDICT
FactOur original verdict: “Fact or hype: fact. Creator mode is real, official DeepSeek and free to use today, but it isn't brand new and it's a high-trust power-user mode in a preview app.”
THE CLAIM
“Meet Creator Mode in DeepSeek Harness. Turn ideas into plugins that you can use, from a design workspace to a sandbox game or a 3D LLM visualizer.”
What’s actually true
- DeepSeek Harness is an official DeepSeek product. Its page is on deepseek.com, the code is in DeepSeek's own GitHub organisation (deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness, MIT), the desktop apps download from download.deepseek.com, and the official @deepseek_ai account reposted this post and tagged @DeepSeekHarness in its October model launch.
- Creator mode exists and you can use it now. DeepSeek's Harness page says you can 'install plugins, or create them through chat in Creator mode', and it's in the public-preview app on macOS, Windows and Linux (npm).
- It isn't brand new. The project's release notes mention Creator mode from at least mid-September 2026, and a 'Let Agent create a plugin' button was added in October. This post is a showcase, not a fresh launch, despite some news headlines.
- It costs nothing extra: Harness is free and open source (MIT). You pay for the model it runs on, by default DeepSeek's API per token.
- Creator mode is a mode inside the same app, not a new model. It adds tools to inspect the running app, install and manage plugins, and guidance for writing them.
- It's high-trust: plugins it builds run as code on your computer, outside the workspace sandbox, and can read files, use the network and run commands. Try it in a scratch profile first.
- We can't watch videos, so we haven't checked the examples in the 99-second demo (design workspace, sandbox game, 3D LLM visualiser). We're going by the post and DeepSeek's own pages.

USE IT IF
Developers and tinkerers who want to add their own tools, panels or modes to DeepSeek Harness without hand-writing a plugin.
SKIP IT IF
Everyday users wanting a polished app: it's a preview with breaking changes, and plugins run with wide access to your computer. Check data-residency rules before using it on client files.
