Anthropic Adds Read-Only Bank Account Analysis to Claude in US Beta
Anthropic's Personal Finance feature links bank and card accounts to Claude through Plaid, offering spending analysis without payment or investment powers, initially for US paid subscribers.

Anthropic has added a Personal Finance feature to its Claude chatbot, allowing users to connect bank and credit card accounts through the fintech platform Plaid and ask questions about balances, spending and bills in everyday language. The tool, announced on 5 November and rolling out in beta this week, is available to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the United States, according to multiple outlets. The development extends the competitive push among AI companies to embed assistants in personal finance, following OpenAI's introduction of similar tools for ChatGPT in May.
Access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, and the feature is not designed to give investment advice. Anthropic says Claude sees the bank's name, each account's name, type and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history. Users connect accounts themselves via Plaid and do not give Claude their banking passwords. The company says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models, and users can revoke access at any time. The feature carries no ads or sponsored recommendations and does not offer credit cards, loans or savings products of its own.
Functionally, users can ask where their money went in a given month, whether spending has risen, what bills remain before the next payday, or how much they might save. Claude can categorise expenses, flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees and gradually increasing bills, explain terms such as APR, calculate interest paid over the past year, and generate weekly spending charts, payment calendars and customisable dashboards. Anthropic cautions that Claude can make mistakes and advises users to verify important figures with their banks.
The dating of the announcement varies slightly in the coverage: ABP News dated it 6 November, while The Hindu, publishing on 6 November, described the rollout as announced "on Thursday" — consistent with 5 November 2026. Al-Manar, citing Reuters, reported the beta as arriving ahead of a highly anticipated initial public offering. ZDNET reports that an Anthropic April usage report found financial advice among the main subjects users bring to Claude. Japanese coverage from ITmedia states a cap of up to 16 financial institutions, while ZDNET describes linking as many accounts as desired; the discrepancy is not resolved in the supplied material. Anthropic presents Personal Finance as a first step and says it is exploring work with banks, wealth managers and financial services companies. No launch date has been given for Europe.
