Optimizely
Enterprise digital experience platform (Optimizely One) with an AI agent layer on top.
What Optimizely does
Enterprise digital experience platform (Optimizely One) with an AI agent layer on top. AI side: Optimizely Opal, renamed Optimizely Agent Platform on 1 Sep 2026 (the chat assistant is now called 'Mark'), is a no-code agent orchestration platform for marketing teams. It has 50-70+ prebuilt agents, a drag-and-drop workflow builder with triggers, and custom agents and tools (remote MCP, SDKs). 'Virtual Teammates' (Aug 2026) are persistent agents such as a CRO Manager, Marketing Analyst, SEO & AI Search Analyst and Personalization Strategist. Brand and governance controls are included. Inside experimentation, AI agents suggest test ideas, review an A/B test setup before launch, check conflicts with live tests, summarise results and estimate value. In content, they draft and build CMS pages, audit content and generate 1:1 personalised pages and microsites. Models are Gemini or Claude, picked per instance. Classic (non-AI) platform: CMS, Web and Feature Experimentation (A/B, multi-page and server-side tests, feature flags, Stats Engine), Personalization, Content Marketing Platform, Analytics, Data Platform, Commerce and Asset Management.
Good for
- Sign up for the free Rollouts plan, add one feature flag with the open-source SDK, and run a single A/B test to see the classic platform before talking to sales
- On a paid instance, run the Experiment Review agent on a planned A/B test and compare its suggestions with your own test plan (watch the credit counter; 200 free credits a month)
- Ask the agent platform to summarise a finished experiment's results and draft a stakeholder update, then check the numbers against the Stats Engine report yourself
Try this in 10 minutes
- Sign up for the free Rollouts plan, add one feature flag with the open-source SDK, and run a single A/B test to see the classic platform before talking to sales. Pick one real example from your own business and try just that.
- On a paid instance, run the Experiment Review agent on a planned A/B test and compare its suggestions with your own test plan (watch the credit counter; 200 free credits a month). Put the result next to how you do it today. Is it faster, cheaper or better?
- Ask the agent platform to summarise a finished experiment's results and draft a stakeholder update, then check the numbers against the Stats Engine report yourself. Note what you had to fix by hand before you'd show it to a customer.

Honest take
Some claims not independently checked
- The AI layer is real and documented in detail (support release notes, agent list, credit docs), but it's new and moving fast: the product was renamed from Opal on 1 Sep 2026 while the docs still mostly say 'Opal'.
- The AI features need Opti ID and generative AI switched on, and they use credits.
- Marketing stats on the Agent Platform page (25% more personalised campaigns, 5x faster compliance checks, 3-5 hrs a week saved on reporting) are self-reported.
- Pricing is opaque: a third-party Vendr summary (Humblytics, Aug 2026) reports a median contract of about $81K/yr, roughly $26K-$261K (secondhand, not from Optimizely).
- The free Rollouts plan is server-side flags only, with no visual editor and no AI agents.
- Realistically an enterprise buy, not a self-serve tool.
What we couldn’t verify
- Fact vs hype: Optimizely is a long-established enterprise DXP vendor (formerly Episerver + Optimizely), and the classic CMS, experimentation and feature-flag products are mature and widely used.
