What Google AI Edge Foresight does
Free, experimental on-device meeting companion app for Macs with Apple silicon, from Google AI Edge. It listens to system audio and the mic (Google Meet, Zoom or in-person meetings) and transcribes locally. You type shorthand bullets and it expands them into polished notes from the transcript. Point it at local folders (PDF, Office, Google Docs, text, Markdown, web bookmarks, diagrams) or Google Drive and it builds a local semantic index. You can then chat with your files, or switch on 'Live Assistance', which spots questions in the meeting and shows answer cards with citations. Runs on EmbeddingGemma 2 (740M-parameter multimodal embedding model, open-weight, Apache 2.0) for retrieval plus Gemma 4 (E2B) for answers. All inference is on-device and it works offline once set up.
Good for
- Point it at one project folder (PDFs, docs, Markdown), then ask it in chat for a specific fact you know is in there and check the citation it gives
- Run it during a practice Zoom or Meet call with Live Assistance on, ask a question covered in your files out loud, and see whether a correct answer card pops up
- Type three-word shorthand bullets during a short meeting and compare the 'enhanced' notes with the transcript for accuracy and anything invented
Try this in 10 minutes
- Point it at one project folder (PDFs, docs, Markdown), then ask it in chat for a specific fact you know is in there and check the citation it gives. Use the free plan: pick one real example from your own business and try just that.
- Run it during a practice Zoom or Meet call with Live Assistance on, ask a question covered in your files out loud, and see whether a correct answer card pops up. Put the result next to how you do it today. Is it faster, cheaper or better?
- Type three-word shorthand bullets during a short meeting and compare the 'enhanced' notes with the transcript for accuracy and anything invented. Note what you had to fix by hand before you'd show it to a customer.

Honest take
Some claims not independently checked
- Google announced it on the Google Developers Blog with EmbeddingGemma 2 on 6 Oct 2026, and the Verge, 9to5Google and heise covered it; @googlegemma posted a demo thread on 20 Oct.
- Google calls it 'experimental', a showcase for its on-device models rather than a supported product.
- Requirements: Apple silicon only (the download is arm64-only, about 160 MB; no Intel or Windows version).
- A Japanese outlet that inspected the file reports macOS 14.2 or later is needed.
- Privacy: Google says inference is '100% local' and files, audio and transcripts never leave the Mac.
- It still needs internet at first setup (Gemma 4 E2B downloads after install), the Google Drive connection is network-based, and it involves a Google sign-in.
- Workspace users need their admin to switch on 'Early Access Apps' plus 'Core Data Access' in the Google Admin console.
- The app is not open source (only the EmbeddingGemma 2 model weights are open).
- Language support isn't stated.
- Expect quality below cloud note-takers like Granola, since it runs small local models.
What we couldn’t verify
- Fact vs hype: Real and free.
- That's Google's claim and nobody has measured it independently.
