ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage allowance from December

1 November 2026, 00:25 · 4 sources · Selected from the community

OpenAI's help centre says that from December, Plus, Pro and Business plans get one shared, token-based allowance covering both ChatGPT and Codex. Instant chat doesn't count, usage shows under Settings > Usage, and when it runs out you wait, upgrade or buy credits. Mobile also now lets you stay signed in to two accounts and switch between them.

Why it mattersHeavy coding in Codex will now eat into everyday ChatGPT use. Check Settings > Usage in early December before deciding to upgrade or buy credits.
