Minds by Animoca Brands: "#1 in entertainment, roleplay and creative writing on OpenRouter"
OUR VERDICT
Partly factOur original verdict: “Fact or hype: partly fact. OpenRouter does rank "Hello Minds" first in Roleplay and Creative Writing, but in Entertainment it was second on 3 Nov. And as Minds' own footnote admits, the ranking counts tokens processed, not users or results, so it doesn't show that the agent "gets real things done".”
THE CLAIM
“Personal companion that knows you and gets real things done. #1 in entertainment, roleplay and creative writing on OpenRouter* (*OpenRouter rankings reflect workload processed, not users or revenue)”
What’s actually true
- Mostly true on OpenRouter's own pages (3 Nov 2026). "Hello Minds, powered by Ethoswarm" is #1 in Roleplay (84.9B tokens, ahead of Janitor AI's 34.9B) and #1 in Creative Writing (84.9B, ahead of Craft's 19.8B). In the Entertainment ranking it was #2, level with ISEKAI ZERO at 84.9B, so "#1 in entertainment" was out of date that day. Animoca's 31 July shareholder update claimed #1 in all three.
- The footnote matters. OpenRouter ranks apps by tokens they send through it, not by people using them. An always-on agent that rereads its long memory and runs background tasks uses a lot of tokens per person, so a high ranking can come from a small but heavy user base. Minds doesn't publish user numbers.
- The categories are a strange fit. Minds sells itself as a productivity assistant ("the deck ready, the inbox clear"), yet its top rankings are in roleplay and creative writing. It does offer ready-made "characters" ("start with a character you want around"), which may explain it.
- "Gets real things done" isn't something OpenRouter measures, and we haven't tested Minds. It connects to Gmail, Google Calendar and Drive, Slack, GitHub and more, and works by email and Telegram, but there are no independent reviews of how reliably it completes tasks.
- Who's behind it: Animoca Minds Limited in Hong Kong, owned by the Web3 company Animoca Brands, running on CryptoSlam's Ethoswarm (Animoca has invested in Ethoswarm). Every Mind gets an on-chain wallet, one template is a crypto trading agent, and the terms include KYC and anti-money-laundering checks. It launched as an alpha on 5 Feb 2026 and is still in beta.
- Privacy (privacy policy, read 3 Nov 2026): a Mind's memory "cannot be switched off"; complete deletion of what it remembers "cannot be guaranteed" because copies can sit with third-party model and storage providers; your data is used to train its models unless you opt out; and Minds you introduce share memory with each other. Anyone can email your Mind without an account, so think about who can send it instructions before you connect your inbox.
- Price: pay as you go per Mind. US$10 buys 1,000 Cognition, US$25 2,500 and US$50 5,000, one-off or as a monthly refill. Free campaign credits give your first three Minds 200 each, plus one free daily top-up for a Mind below 100. Minds doesn't say how much Cognition a typical task uses, and purchases are non-refundable except where UK/EU consumer law says otherwise.
