AI SEARCH TIP · 29 OCTOBER 2026
Write an honest 'alternatives to [competitor]' page
Publish one 'alternatives to [competitor]' or '[you] vs [competitor]' page written as a genuine buyer's guide: a comparison table, how you chose the options, who each one suits (including when a rival is the better fit), and a clear note that the page is yours. A study by AEO agency Minuttia of 18,084 software questions (August 2026) found vendor-written pages make up 34-47% of the lists AI engines cite for 'alternatives' questions, and Perplexity favoured pages with tables and clear criteria over salesy ones; it also found ChatGPT checks vendors' own sites, so keep your pricing, integrations and 'who it's for' facts on their own crawlable pages. Caveats: it's a vendor's observational study of software categories only, and Google has penalised thin, self-promotional 'best of' lists before, so keep it fair rather than ranking yourself first. To check it worked, ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode 'alternatives to [competitor] for [your type of customer]' once a month and note whether your page is cited.
That's it for today.
