@thsottiaux, @kimmonismus and @Mr_Salio: is GPT-6.1 Terra any good?

27 October 2026, 11:59 · 3 sources · Curated by Sara Simeone

Codex lead Tibo (@thsottiaux), who works at OpenAI, calls Terra OpenAI's first model that's significantly better at writing and personality, and says it gives twice the usage of GPT-6.1 Sol. @kimmonismus calls it 'the weirdest release' and says Sonnet 5.5 is much better, while @Mr_Salio calls it one of the most disappointing models he's tested against Opus 5.5, apart from its speed, though he also notes it's about 75% cheaper than Opus 5.5.

Why it mattersWhen an insider and independent testers disagree this much, your own test on your own task is the only verdict that counts. Run the same job through both models and compare quality, time and cost.
