AI SEARCH TIP · 26 OCTOBER 2026

Answer the follow-up questions, because Google's AI searches for them too

2 sources · Part of the 26 October 2026 edition

Google's own guidance says AI Overviews and AI Mode may use 'query fan-out': they run several related searches across subtopics before writing one answer, so a page can be cited for a side question even if it doesn't rank for the main one. For a small business, that means each key service page should also answer the obvious follow-ups (price range, who it's for, how long it takes, how it compares with the alternative), with clear headings and internal links between those pages. Google also says a page only qualifies if it's indexed and allowed to show a snippet, so check you haven't added nosnippet or a tight max-snippet tag by accident. To check it's working, use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console on your key pages, watch the Performance report (AI features are counted in the 'Web' search type), and try a few follow-up questions in AI Mode to see if you're linked.

That's it for today.
