agent-desktop: 'agents use your computer in parallel, each with its own cursor'
OUR VERDICT
Partly factOur original verdict: “Fact or hype: mostly fact. The catch is the 'each agent with its own cursor' line.”
THE CLAIM
“Introducing agent-desktop, 'agent-browser, for your whole computer': computer use for any coding agent on macOS, Windows and Linux, running in the background while you keep working, with 'agents using your computer in parallel, each with its own cursor'.”
What’s actually true
- agent-desktop 1.0 from Vercel Labs is a free, open-source command-line tool that lets any coding agent use desktop apps on macOS, Windows and Linux. The repository is live (Apache-2.0, version 1.0 on 27 October, 1.0.2 on 30 October).
- Instead of guessing from screenshots, it reads each app's real structure through the operating system's accessibility tree and clicks controls by their id.
- The 'each agent with its own cursor' line is the catch: the cursors are an optional on-screen overlay, and real mouse and keyboard input is still taken by one agent at a time.
- It only works where apps expose good accessibility data, and it's a Vercel Labs experiment, not a supported Vercel product.
- The 20-second demo is an edited, silent showreel: it shows Notes, Reminders and Calculator on a Mac and Event Viewer on Windows 11, but can't prove input really runs in parallel, and Linux isn't shown.

Cost
Free and open source (Apache-2.0); you need your own coding agent.
USE IT IF
Developers and technical teams who need an agent to operate desktop-only software, such as an old accounting app with no API.
SKIP IT IF
Non-technical users, or apps with poor accessibility support. It can see whatever is on screen, so test it on a non-sensitive machine first.
